Why the west is smoky!

Description

I thought I would share with everyone what the Colorado front range area is dealing with because of forest fires. This snapshot shows the Cameron Peak fire smoke plume and another smoke plume mixed with it from a freshly ignited fire just to its east lying underneath sunset clouds at a higher altitude. The combined smoke plume extended at least 90 miles or so to the east. Within an hour of this photo, the smoke had drifted south and wrapped back to the west and my skies were fully smoke filled. The Cameron Peak fire is the largest fire in Colorado history, having consumed 187,537 acres as of this post. It is only 57% contained and high winds are expected to stoke the fire today before a cold front arrives.
